Texas Teen Says Stem Cell Injections Have Improved His Vision

by amyryan on August 3rd, 2009

An El Paso, Texas, teenager left mostly blind since birth by optic nerve hypoplasia will be returning home at the end of August after spending two months, and $60,000, receiving stem cell treatments in China. The 16-year-old says he has begun to see colors and objects better. The treatments consisted of acupuncture, electric wave therapy, intravenous stem cells, and finally stem cells delivered via a needle into his spine. His Chinese doctors said his vision has improved after eight stem cell injections. “Today, I was able to see a candy wrapper on the floor. This is really exciting news and after this it will only get better,” Lawrence Brown wrote in his blog.

Hello my name is william Knight, we live in the netherlands in Europe.

Our daughter, Josephine, is 8 months old and we are told she got PVL and ONH. Can any one help us to give us info about stemcell experience in china.

We want to go there but we are afraid that the stemcell treatment is a hoax.

Please if any one is out there with experience can you let us know.

Thank you for reading this cry for help.

Be careful. Despite patient reports of successful treatments, so-called offshore treatment clinics rarely if ever provide scientifically proven therapies. Exceptions include places that provide blood stem cell transplants for people who have undergone cancer treatments. I would suggest you download and read a free patient handbook for patients considering stem cell treatment overseas. It was written by the International Society of Stem Cell Researchers. You’ll need Adobe Reader to open the document. It’s at

      http://www.isscr.org/clinical_trans/pdfs/ISSCRPatientHandbook.pdf.

There is also available a Global Guide to Stem Cell Treatment Providers. It is also a PDF eBook, but it costs US$29. More information on that is available at http://www.stemcellresearchnews.com/GlobalGuide.htm. It has three listings of Chinese clinics, plus nearly 50 other facilities or referral services.Good luck with your search and your decision. And, as I said, be careful.
